Nationalism

Throughout modern Global history, nationalism has played both positive and negative roles. The Latin American revolutions are a prime example of what a negative effect nationalism can play on a nation. Although through the unification of Italy, nationalism has also proved to have a positive effect on a nation. In both of these examples, nationalism has later impacted history in both a positive and negative way.
Throughout the years of 1800-1850, various revolutions broke out in Latin America due to the ideas of Nationalism. When the Napoleanic wars occurred in Europe, they disrupted the Spanish control over parts in the Americas. In this time people in the colonies adopted ideas of liberalism and nationalism, which helped them in gaining their independence.
The efforts of many leaders in Latin America, particularly Simon Bolivar and San Martin, is what eventually ousted Spain from South America. Many of the Spanish colonies had gained their independence by 1850. Yet after ...
