Hair Growth Cycles

The effectiveness of hair removal treatments is determined by the phase of growth each hair follicle is in. Each hair follicle undergoes repeated cycles of active growth and rest known as Anagen, Catagen and Telogen.

The Anagen phase is also known as the ‘active’ growth phase where hair fibre is produced allowing hair to grow and become visible above the skin, (see Figure 1). The Anagen phase is further subdivided into proanagen, mesanagen and metanagen phases.
