German Greencard

In March 2000 federal chancellor Gerhard Schröder was pleased to announce the plan to introduce a new form of temporary work permit in Germany, the German Green Card.
At that time there was an acute lack of IT-specialists, due to economical ignorance and false estimation on the future labor market.
The government and the industrial associations in the information and communications technology sector wanted to recruit a total of 20000 IT-specialists for a limited time with a maximum of five years. Possible applicants are non-european-union computer specialists with university and polytechnique qualifications, e. g. Bachelor´s or Master´s degrees; in addition applicants without a degree are provided of an anual salary of at least € 51000.
