Animal Testing
The number of animals killed each year in the United States alone, varies from 17 million to 70 million animals. However, the Animal Welfare Act (ACA) states laboratories must report the number of animals used in experiments; yet mice, birds, and rats are not included in this figured. These animals are used in 80 to 90 percent of all animal testing. Therefore, it is impossible to have an accurate number of animals used in such experiments (PETA).
Animal testing may not directly affect civilians each day or be an issue on our minds, yet the actions we do daily affects those for and against animal experimentation. This has been a worldwide issue and an ongoing battle for decades. Vivisection, the practice of experimenting on animals, has been around since the beginning of scientific medicine. Yet it has become an alternative to the dissection of human corpses, in result of religious leaders’ protests (Choose Cruelty Free).
