Animal imagery throughout Robert's journey

War is any struggle in which two large groups try to destroy or conquer each other. Armies and navies once were almost the only factors in deciding the outcome of wars. Most people hate war, yet for hundreds of years war has been going on somewhere in the world practically all the time. Wars have always caused great suffering and hardship. For centuries, civilians join in the war effort to help it succeed. In most cases, these are young men who are innocent and have never seen the face of war before. In Timothy Findley's novel The Wars, the main character Robert Ross, has a deep connection with animals that reflects his personality and the situations that he faces through out war. Animals are very abundant throughout the novel and are used to develop characterization and theme. Each animal has a symbolic meaning in this novel and they also have a great impact on his decisions and way of life. This link between Robert and the animals shows the reader that human nature is not much diff...
