2nd AMMENDENT - Politics or Emotions?

Is this battle over the Second Amendment rights driven by emotions or politics or both? Are we strengthening our freedoms or weakening them over issues such as this? The 2nd Amendment was published in the Bill of Rights in September 1789. It expressly states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
As you know, this is a very “hot” topic and has been for some time. Many people have interpreted this Amendment in many ways. They have made the claim that this is meant for military only, for people to protect themselves. It is difficult to figure out.
Many special interest groups are involved in the protection of this Amendment as well as the movement that seems to want dissolution of this Amendment. Groups like the National Rifle Association (NRA) and citizens from the Million Mom March (MMM) are some of these groups.
